Monteverde Bat Jungle

About this tour

Come and enjoy the most impressive bats exhibition in Costa Rica. The Bat Jungle Laboratory in Monteverde is the culmination of approximately 40 years of hard work by Dr. Richard Laval, who has dedicated himself to research and investigate bats species worldwide.

In the Monteverde Bat Jungle you will learn about the biological history of these fascinating flying mammals, you will also be able to learn about the incredible variety of species existing in Costa Rica and the world.

The guides will provide you educational speech about bats, such as behavior, diet, reproduction and many other super interesting details.

We will also learn on how these mammals were evolved to be able to fly, using a wonderful system that resembles the wings of birds, however bats do not have wings (these are adapted large hands to fly). You will also learn about the incredible system they manage to detect everything inside the forest while flying through the dark night, this fascinating system known as echolocation.

We will also be able to see the incredible real vampires' species. We can observe lactating baby bats hanging from their precious mothers.

In this incredible laboratory we have approximately 80 live and active bats. With large flight spaces to create an optimal habitat, like the real forest.

During the Bat Jungle tour, you will be able to observe the different species approaching the feeders, looking for fruits and nectar. And further inside we can find the hunters and vampires species. Do not worry, vampires do not attack people! In addition, the species are well protected with crystal chambers to avoid contact with people.

In the Bat Jungle you will be able to listen to the many sounds emitted by all the species, which they use to create the echolocation system and thus move around.

In addition, through a sound amplification system we can hear and appreciate all these phenomenal sounds.

Throughout the Bat Jungle laboratory, we have different exhibition chambers, to maintain an adequate biological order of species and populations. So, the route is also much more dynamic.

We also have the incredible bat ears, specially designed for human use, with these ears you will experience a little about the incredible hearing sensitivity of bats.

This is a great opportunity to include during your visit to Monteverde.

Come and enjoy this incredible adventure. Recommended for all ages.
